  1. The rules define how the brick is placed on the previous brick (shown in gray). Animals are constructed sequentially from segment 1 (placed on the foot segment) and are turned counterclockwise after placing one of the transverse alleles (yellow, black, or white), so the last brick placed (gray) is always oriented identically (up-down in the figure)
