Structural equation model (SEM) of evolution understanding. Evolution understanding, a latent variable, is measured by MATE score and knowledge score, and then regressed against the five predictor variables: religion, religiosity (attendance), academic level, high school experience, and college major. Numbers show the standardized parameter estimates; black denotes negative relationships while gray denotes positive relationships. Dashed line represents fixed factor loading to one for MATE score.
