Examples of answers given by students in the assessment of the knowledge about genetic drift. When faced with a situation of a fish population living in a big lake that dried out leaving two lakes harboring two new fish populations with different sizes, most students correctly predicted that the population in the bigger lake would have a higher diversity (A, B, C) although only approximately one-third was able to justify this prediction with the higher number of fish in this lake (B, C).
